PG DIPLOMA IN Applied Journalism and Media Communication

The 9.9 School of Convergence in New Delhi offers two unique opportunities this summer for students to gain academic and professional experience in India.

The Summer Seminar in Global Media and Communication provides a thorough understanding of the global media industry, focusing on India as an emerging economy and Delhi as a global city.

The combined Seminar/Internship Program in Global Media and Communication allows students to combine these in-depth studies with an internship at an international or Indian media/communications company or NGO in Delhi.

This three-week intensive seminar held in New Delhi and Ranikhet—a rural village in the Himilayan foothills—introduces students to Indian culture and society and focuses on India as an emerging economy, developing communication technologies, and Delhi as a global city. The course allows students to:

  • Explore the history and future of Indian media and popular culture
  • Investigate the structures and impact of multinational and local media organizations
  • Examine the Indian film industry and flows of images and information into and out of India
  • Discover advances in communication technologies found in rural and urban areas

The seminar/internship program provides students with a thorough understanding of the transformation of international media industries and audiences and a professional work experience in India. Students will begin the program with the same two-week seminar, followed by six weeks of professional internship in one of India’s top media, marketing, PR and NGO organizations located throughout Delhi. Interns will learn on the job for five days a week with Friday afternoons reserved for an internship workshop/seminar, led by media industry leaders and academics.

This combined program allows students to:

  • Attain first-hand experience in one of the world’s fastest growing media markets
  • Explore one of the World’s most fascinating, exciting and heterogeneous societies
  • Secure a distinctive career advantage on the international market!
  • Gain realistic understanding of globalization and development communication on the ground

Accommodations and Extracurricular Activities
Room and Board are provided in a charming inn in the Himalayan foothills and then in guest houses and hostels (dormitories) throughout South Delhi—the social and cultural hub of the city.

Students can participate in a number of extra-curricular activities that are supported by the school, including yoga, Hindi lessons, Indian dance, and attend the best cultural events Delhi has to offer.
